Student Union – Year End Party

This was another gem of the year. One of my friends is a volunteer with the student union. Our student union group is unfortunately quite cliquish; all of them are a close-knit group, which makes it hard to break into. The sad fact is each student pays at least $100 in fees to this group, making them extremely well funded. They throw themselves a party each term to pat each other on the back for a term passed.

This year, I managed to get admittance by emailing a few organizers extra tickets. It started off slow, people stood around making small talk. However once the food came out, things got lively.

Thumbs up for all the free food!

I can tell you, they spent a lot of money on this party. It was quite unfair, to use our student money and spend it on gourmet food themselves.

Regardless, I was there, making good use of the fees I paid to them. Platter after platter of shrimp, skewered meat, sausage, sliders, asparagus and many other high cost foods were doled out. It was unbelievable – I had never eaten this quality of food from any student-organized event before! I’m estimating they spent at least $2000 on the catering for 100 heads… that meant 20/person (cost of a buffet!)
