Vendor Showcase

At the beginning of the year, there is a huge event where vendors set up booths on a field and offer free samples. It starts around 8am, which is the best time to loot. By noon, the lines become ridiculously long, stretching over 100m for a few free chocolate bars! The entire process of waiting in line and transporting goods took around 2 hours, but it was enjoyable – I went with my roommates.

My first collection trip, I managed to take over 8 packages from a Local Newspaper. Each package contained a TV Dinner, tabasco sauce, cereal and gum. The green “care” bag was from Shoppers Drug Mart, containing various toiletries (i.e. travel shampoo, deodorant, condoms) and chocolates. Stuff in my duffel bag and laundry bag were more free samples from companies, all containing various snacks and treats.

I dropped off my first haul at home and went back for seconds. More packages from Local Newspaper and Shoppers. The grocery bag you see is from Fortinos, containing reusable grocery bag, large chocolates, mints, granola bars, misc. flyers and coupons (useless). There was also a line for Pizza Pizza for free slices and Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream cups, I had 2 of each but didn’t get pictures. Many other booths gave out small candies/chocolates/cupcakes/T-shirts,  I didn’t photograph either.

This was my total haul for the day, I think I took around 3 trips campus to home to carry all of it! Popeyes supplement had a booth giving out shaker cups, slippers and pre-workout. They made us do 25 pushups or 25 jumping jacks in order to obtain said “prizes”. All the overweight/obese individuals elected to do jumping jacks.
